GOVERNMENT HOUSE.

HONGKONG. 14th. March, 1916,

I have the honour to report that the available

assets of the local branch of the Deutsch Asiatische Bank amount at the present time to some $390,000.

2.

They are however indebted to the Disconto Gesellschaft in the sum of $200,000, and it is understood that the Disconto Gesellschaft are indebted to the Bank of England.

3.

I shall be glad to learn whether in the circumstances the sum of $200,000 should be remitted to the Bank of England or whether it should be invested in the War Loan.
